Athlete’s Foot

Also known as tenia pedis, athlete’s foot is a fungal infection affecting the foot. The fungi that cause this infection usually breed in dark and moist places, which is why, they are more common in athletes and sportspersons who spend a lot of time wearing shoes.

While you can go conventional and try the OTC creams and powders available, a good idea is to choose some anti-fungal herbs that prevent fungal growth and treat athlete’s foot. Here are some great herbs you can try to deal with athlete’s foot.

Athlete’s Foot

Ginger

Ginger is known to contain a compound known as caprylic acid, which is one of the best natural treatments for fungal infections. Simply add some crushed ginger to a cup of boiling water and let it stay for 15-20 minutes. Now allow it to cool down and wash the affected area with this water.

Garlic

Also known as allium sativum, garlic possesses strong anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that can be harnessed to deal with not just athlete’s foot, but many other fungal infections.

Crushing a few cloves of garlic and adding them to warm water and then washing and massaging the foot with this can help reduce infection.

Another great way is to dab some garlic oil onto the affected area for a couple of days.

Chamomile

Chamomile oil is popular in many aromatherapy rituals, and its antifungal and antibacterial properties may also be helpful in reducing fungal infections of the skin, including athlete’s foot.

Applying diluted chamomile oil to the affected area can bring about relief in itching, redness and other symptoms associated with athlete’s foot.

Tea tree

Licorice

Lemongrass

Black walnut

Turmeric

Onion

Onion juice should be applied to the affected area and left for some time.

Sosa

Sosa is an herb from Mexico, and several studies have found it to be effective in dealing with athlete’s foot and other infections. In fact, the effectiveness of this herb is just as effective as compared to other drugs when it comes to dealing with athlete’s foot.
